Movado

Established in 1881, in the village of La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, by 19 year old Achille Ditesheim, Movado was founded on the desire to develop timepieces that would surpass all others in quality. Meaning "always in motion" in the constructed international language of Esperanto, Movado has created a legacy in design innovation winning over 200 awards in artistry and innovation in watch design and technology.

The Gold Dot

The Movado Museum Watch and the now iconic gold dot design, trace their roots to the creation of the Bauhaus design movement and its dictum “Simplicity, tastefulness, function” in 1919. The dot represents the Sun in the sky at noon with the movement of the hands intended to invoke the movement of the Earth around it.

Other Concepts

The initial concept was intended to push away from the more simple Movado style and stretch the artistic envelope in a new direction. Featuring imagery of overlapping boundaries, flight and the breaking of the old, the spot takes Movado into a new era.

Playing on the Museum Watch and the iconic gold dot design, this spot toys with the central idea of circles, invoking the timeless elegance of the Movado brand.

Featuring the colors red, white and black and blocky shapes this piece plays on the design of the Swiss flag, exploring the watch maker and its connection with its own national identity.
