In 2015, long before Netflix greenlit the series, director and longtime collaborator Dennis Liu approached GRAFX with a concept. He had a nearly complete short film styled as a trailer—but it lacked the visual “punch” necessary to make a fantastical plot feel grounded and believable.

This viral success caught the attention of Netflix, leading them to partner with Dennis and Michael B. Jordan to bring Raising Dion under the Netflix Originals umbrella.
